Gain, through experiential learning abroad, the skills and appreciation of another country’s culture, language, and political/societal institutions, in order to become a more responsible and active participant in our diverse and global society.
Through this international travel/living abroad experience, students develop skills in Chinese language, as well as in problem solving and critical thinking, and learn compensation strategies for effective communication and functionality while navigating real life experience in China. Students gain geographical, historical, political, cultural and linguistic knowledge by means of immersion in Chinese culture and society.
Language lessons will be conducted by UNC Professor Michelle Low and local, native teachers. Students can have zero Chinese proficiency or be advanced language learners.
Co-Requisite: Students must enroll for both this course and MIND 181-629 for this study abroad experience.
If any pre-requisites are required, they will be listed above. Prerequisites require an instructor override in advance of your registration in Ursa. Please contact the instructor before registering to provide proof of completion of the prerequisite course. Other UNC staff are not able to assist with prerequisite overrides for registration.

If you are not seeking a degree at UNC, but have earned a GED or high school diploma, you may take a course for personal interest or to transfer to another college or university. Please note, as a non-degree seeking student, you are not eligible for Financial Aid.
