FL 296 & 395 – Paris Through the Ages

A Summer 2018 Faculty-Led Study Abroad Foreign Language Course in Paris, France

Trip Summary

Spend three weeks in the heart of Paris. We are partnering with Université Paris Déscartes, in the Latin Quarter, to create our own summer campus in Paris. Study French language in the morning and spend afternoons with our very own expert from the Sorbonne learning more about the history, art, and architecture of the most visited city in the world. Most weekends and evenings are free for travel and exploration. You will enroll for a total of 6 credits via FL 296 Study Abroad Experience (LAC 7), and FL 395 Paris Through the Ages.

Gain, through experiential learning abroad, the skills and appreciation of another country’s culture, language, and political and societal institutions, in order to become a more responsible and active participant in our diverse and global society. This course is graded on an S/U (Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory/no credit) scale.

This course is letter graded. Students will:

  • Outline and describe the evolution of the people, art, and architecture of Paris.
  • Identify and explain important artistic and architectural movements & monuments.
  • Reflect on the diversity and richness of the many faces of Paris today.

Prerequisite: FR 102 Elementary French II or instructor consent

Current UNC students must have 24 credit hours completed by the time of departure with a minimum GPA of 2.5, and a clean disciplinary record at UNC. Spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible applicants.

Undergraduate Students

If any prerequisites are required, they will be listed above. Prerequisites require an instructor override in advance of your registration in Ursa. Please contact the instructor before registering to provide proof of completion of the prerequisite course. Other UNC staff are not able to assist with prerequisite overrides for registration.

Current UNC students can register for this course.

UNC Non-Degree Seeking

If you are not seeking a degree at UNC, but have earned a GED or high school diploma, you may take a course for personal interest or to transfer to another college or university. Please note, as a non-degree seeking student, you are not eligible for Financial Aid.

FLSA Paris Through the Ages Application

Participating in an FLSA Program/Course
  1. Speak with your advisor, parents and/or guardian about the best course and program for you.
  2. Download and complete the Application using the link above.
  3. You will need to have the Disciplinary Verification Form portion of the application signed by the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (part of the Dean of Students Office). Please allow them up to 24 hours to verify and sign this form for you.
  4. Return the completed application along with the required deposit to the Extended Campus office in Michener by the application deadline.
  5. Attend all required meetings for the FLSA.

A nonrefundable deposit (via credit card or a check written out to the University of Northern Colorado) is due at the time of application. Deposits are non-refundable and signify your commitment to participate in the course. Once you commit to participate, UNC may begin to make logistical arrangements on your behalf that may include non-recoverable costs. UNC will attempt to recover funds expended or committed on your behalf if you decide to withdraw, but any non-recoverable costs to UNC (charged by airlines, third party vendors, tour operators, etc.) will be paid with your deposit.

Your full deposit will only be returned if you are not accepted for the course or if the course is canceled.

Once You register

Billing and Payment for Your Course

  • You will submit a deposit with your application packet. This deposit is non-refundable if you are accepted to the course, but will be refunded if your application is not accepted.
  • You will be billed for the remaining program cost via the billing schedule for the term in which the course is delivered.
  • Course materials costs (textbooks, etc.) are assessed and paid separately.
  • To view or pay your bill, please visit the Bursar’s website for specific instructions on accessing your bill. You will not receive a bill in the mail; UNC has an ebill system.
