Foreign Language 296-600 – Foreign Language Study Abroad Experience: France

A Faculty-Led Study Abroad Course in Paris, France

Trip Summary

Spend three weeks in the heart of Paris. We are partnering with Université Paris Déscartes, in the Latin Quarter, to create our own summer campus in Paris. Study French language in the morning and spend afternoons with our very own expert from the Sorbonne learning more about the history, art, and architecture of the most visited city in the world. Most weekends and evenings are free for travel and exploration. Earn a total of 6 credits: FL 296 Study Abroad Experience (LAC 7), and FL 395 Paris Through the Ages.

Course Summary

Gain, through experiential learning abroad, the skills and appreciation of another country’s culture, language, and political and societal institutions, in order to become a more responsible and active participant in our diverse and global society. This course is graded on an S/U (Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory/no credit) scale.

Co-Requisite: Students must enroll for both this course and FL 395-601 for this study abroad experience.

Eligibility

Pre-requisite: FR 102 Elementary French II recommended but not required.

Undergraduate Students

If any pre-requisites are required, they will be listed above. Prerequisites require an instructor override in advance of your registration in Ursa. Please contact the instructor before registering to provide proof of completion of the prerequisite course. Other UNC staff are not able to assist with prerequisite overrides for registration.

UNC Degree Seeking

Current UNC students can register for this course.

UNC Non-Degree Seeking

If you are not seeking a degree at UNC, but have earned a GED or high school diploma, you may take a course for personal interest or to transfer to another college or university. Please note, as a non-degree seeking student, you are not eligible for Financial Aid.

6 Easy Steps to Participating in an FLSA Program/Course:

  1. Speak with your advisor, parents and/or guardian about the best course and program for you.
  2. Go to the CIE office to pick up the application packet and discuss details of the course/program. Or you can find the course-specific application by visiting the FLSA courses page on the CIE website.
  3. Complete the application paperwork and return it to CIE by the required deadline.
  4. Also bring the required deposit with your registration form (found in the application packet) to the Extended Campus office in Michener after dropping off your application paperwork to CIE.
  5. Attend all meetings required for the FLSA.
  6. TRAVEL ABROAD AND ENJOY!!

Once You register

Billing and Payment for Your Course

  • You will submit a $400 deposit with your application packet. This deposit is non-refundable if you are accepted to the course, but will be refunded if your application is not accepted.
  • You will be billed for the remaining program cost via the billing schedule for the term in which the course is delivered.
  • Course materials costs (textbooks, CDs, etc.) are assessed and paid separately.
  • To view or pay your bill, please visit the Bursar’s website: http://www.unco.edu/acctservices/bursar/accrec.htm for specific instructions on accessing your bill. You will not receive a bill in the mail; UNC has an ebill system.

Deposits are non-refundable and signify your commitment to participate in the course. Once you commit to participate, UNC may begin to make logistical arrangements on your behalf that may include non-recoverable costs. UNC will attempt to recover funds expended or committed on your behalf if you decide to withdraw, but any non-recoverable costs to UNC (charged by airlines, third party vendors, tour operators, etc.) will be charged to you.
