MUS 256 / 456 / 656 – UNC European Summer Opera Program

A Faculty-Led Study Abroad Course in Germany and France

Students will gain practical experience in the production and performance of complete operatic works in professional productions with Opera Classica Europa, the largest privately-owned company in Germany. Students will study techniques of acting, singing, character analysis and stage direction, as well as performing in Master Classes with well-known opera singers from around the world. In addition to participating in professional opera productions in Germany and France, students will perform in student concerts and galas in Bad Schwalbach, Germany.

Choosing the Correct Course and Section(s)

Take Either 2 or 6 Credit Hours

Students may take this course for either two or six credit hours (additional tuition applies for 6 credit hours; see blue Snapshot box). On the registration form (see "registration" below for directions to get started) please choose EITHER the 2 credit hour OR the 6 credit hour course that corresponds with your level of study.

  • MUS 456: Junior and Senior undergraduate students – section 623 for 2 credits, section 624 for 6 credits

Audition Required

All participants in this course need to audition for this class; this FLSA is not open anyone who has not auditioned and been selected. For specifics, please contact the instructor.

Undergraduate Students

Please contact the instructor before registering to provide proof of completion of the prerequisite course. Other UNC staff are not able to assist with prerequisite overrides for registration.

If you are not seeking a degree at UNC, but have earned a GED or high school diploma, you may take a course for personal interest or to transfer to another college or university. Please note, as a non-degree seeking student, you are not eligible for Financial Aid.

Non-degree seeking graduate status refers to a student who has at least a Bachelor's degree and has either applied to our Graduate School and not yet been admitted or is wanting to take classes but not pursue a degree. Please note, as a non-degree seeking student, you are not eligible for Financial Aid.

Participating in an FLSA Program/Course
  1. Speak with your advisor, parents and/or guardian about the best course and program for you.
  2. Download and complete the Application using the link above.
  3. You will need to have the Disciplinary Verification Form portion of the application signed by the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (part of the Dean of Students Office). Please allow them up to 24 hours to verify and sign this form for you.
  4. Return the completed application along with the required deposit to the Extended Campus office in Michener by the application deadline.
  5. Attend all required meetings for the FLSA.
  6. TRAVEL ABROAD AND ENJOY!!
Deposit

A nonrefundable deposit (via credit card or a check written out to the University of Northern Colorado) is due at the time of application. Deposits are non-refundable and signify your commitment to participate in the course. Once you commit to participate, UNC may begin to make logistical arrangements on your behalf that may include non-recoverable costs. UNC will attempt to recover funds expended or committed on your behalf if you decide to withdraw, but any non-recoverable costs to UNC (charged by airlines, third party vendors, tour operators, etc.) will be paid with your deposit.

Your full deposit will only be returned if you are not accepted for the course or if the course is canceled.

Once You register

Billing and Payment for Your Course

  • You will submit a deposit with your application packet. This deposit is non-refundable if you are accepted to the course, but will be refunded if your application is not accepted.
  • You will be billed for the remaining program cost via the billing schedule for the term in which the course is delivered.
  • Course materials costs (textbooks, etc.) are assessed and paid separately.
  • To view or pay your bill, please visit the Bursar’s website for specific instructions on accessing your bill. You will not receive a bill in the mail; UNC has an ebill system.
