PSCI 296-621 – German Politics & Society: Then and Now

A Summer 2018 Faculty-Led Study Abroad Political Science Course in Berlin, Germany

This course will introduce students to the politics and society of Germany from the early twentieth century through the present. We begin with World War I and the creation of the Weimar Republic then we continue with the history of Nazi Germany, the reality of divided Germany in the post-World War II era, the fall of communism and reunified Germany, and end with developments in Germany today. The course is designed as a survey covering about a century of German history, politics and society, which will allow students to gain an overview while taking advantage of the plethora of resources, including museums, city tours and guest speakers, available in the fascinating and important city of Berlin.
