Special Education Gifted & Talented Master's, Endorsement or Certificate – Coursework & Requirements

Course of Study

Certificate Students: this program can be completed 100% online, with optional visits to campus.

Endorsement and Master of Arts students: this program is completed mostly online. The Fall and Spring semesters are completely online. Summer coursework is partially online but also involves a mix of optional and required visits to the UNC campus in Greeley, Colorado:

  • A 2-day, on-campus orientation the summer prior to the program start
  • An optional on-campus field experience during the first summer of coursework
  • The program culminates with students completing a 2 1/2 week practicum on campus teaching in the Summer Enrichment Program.

EDSE 683 The Gifted Learner: Nature and Needs (3)

EDSE 685 Curriculum & Instructional Practice in Gifted Education (3)

EDSE 686 Emotional and Social Development of the Gifted and Talented (3)

EDSE 687 Program Strategies and Services for the Gifted & Talented (3) OR

EDSE 689 Creativity in Gifted Education (3)

Endorsement (24 Credit Hours)

All courses listed above except EDSE 689 and adding the following:

EDSE 682 Foundations in Gifted Education (3)

EDSE 684 Identification & Assessment of the Gifted (3)

EDSE 688 Communication and Leadership in Special Education (3)

EDSE 691 Practicum in the Summer Enrichment Program (3)

Master of Arts Degree (36 Credit Hours)

All courses listed in both sections above and adding the following:

Master's students will take both EDSE 687 and 689 instead of just one or the other.

EDSE 690 Highest Levels of Learning for the Gifted & Talented (3)

EDSE 691 Practicum in the Summer Enrichment Program (3)

SRM 600 Introduction to Graduate Research (3)
