Choose Academic Coaching and Leadership or Applied Behavior Analysis

This online Special Education Master of Arts – Intervention Specialist program provides two emphasis options. Each emphasis can be completed in two years.

Applied Behavior Analysis Emphasis

This emphasis prepares educators with knowledge and skills in the area of ABA and leadership. Coursework in the Intervention Specialist with an ABA emphasis includes

  • Concepts and foundations of applied behavior analysis
  • Measurement and experimental design
  • Identifying functions or problem behavior
  • Designing, implementing and evaluating interventions
  • Behavior change systems
  • Ethics
  • Management and supervision
  • Application of applied behavior analysis through the lifespan, including individuals with cultural and linguistic diversity, autism, traumatic brain injury and extremely challenging behaviors.

This graduate program prepares educators to become leaders in schools and communities in the area of applied behavior analysis. Because the ABA coursework is a Behavior Analyst Certification Board® (BACB) approved course sequence, those who complete this emphasis will fulfill the coursework requirements to take the examination for certification as Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA).®

Academic Coaching and Leadership Emphasis

This emphasis is designed for people who have worked as a special education teacher and are seeking more education/training at the graduate level in order to become a leader in the work setting.

Students who already have a master's degree and are only interested in the BACB-approved course sequence can instead pursue the Applied Behavior Analysis Graduate Certificate.
