Secondary or K-12 Education Post-Baccalaureate Licensures – Greeley + Online

Get Started

The teacher licensure coursework, known as the PTEP sequence, begins each summer term. However, your chosen content area may determine which term is optimal for you to start the program. Methods courses for Math, English, and Theatre are scheduled the Spring term prior to the PTEP core and require an earlier admission.

Application Deadline For Each Summer Term:

Priority Application Deadline: December 1

Rolling Admissions Thereafter: after the Priority Application deadline, spots are filled on a first-come, first served basis for qualified applicants through April 15. Please contact the Program & Enrollment Manager about available space after the deadline, as we are often able to add sections to accommodate high need.

Early Start for Those Who Need Content Area or Pre-Requisite Coursework:

Fall Admission: July 15

Spring Admission: November 15

The Application Process

If you would like an evaluation of your previous content area coursework before you apply, please contact the Program & Enrollment Manager.

You will apply to the program and then submit additional materials:

  1. Apply to the UNC Graduate School
    • In the online application, you will find this program under the official name Teacher Licensure: _______. Choose the K-12 or Secondary listing that corresponds to your chosen content area (e.g. Teacher Licensure: K-12, Visual Arts or Teacher Licensure: Secondary - Biology).
    • Follow all graduate school application steps for the application fee and submission of official copies of your transcripts (GRE scores are not required for this program).
  2. You will then click on "Submit Supplemental Items" (or log back in later and choose "Bear App Profile") to submit additional materials in the online application system once you have completed your graduate school application.
All Secondary Education Licensure applicants will submit the following:
    • Three professional letters of recommendation - the system will help you initiate requests to be sent to these individuals.
    • Statement of Goals addressing your potential as a graduate student and future professional goals. The letter should be 500 words or less.

K-12 Education Licensure material requirements will vary based on your chosen content area. Expect to provide 2-3 letters of recommendation and the Statement of Goals noted above. Resumes and/or work samples may also be required. Contact your K-12 PTEP Content Advisor to find out the additional material requirements.

Once you apply to the UNC Graduate School and your application packet is complete, your application will be reviewed by the graduate school then sent to the faculty/program for an admission decision. A completed application typically takes four to six weeks to process.
