Applied Causal Evaluation of Policy & Innovation Graduate Certificate – Admission

Get Started – This Certificate Program Begins Each Fall Term

Application Deadline:

Certificate Application Deadline: Priority Application Deadline is April 15; if space is available, we will consider applications through July 15.

Applicants for Online Programs: please be sure to check your eligibility by state of residence.

The Application Process

Current Graduate School Students

If you are currently an admitted graduate student in another UNC program and would like to add in this certificate, you do not need to reapply. Please 1) contact the Program Coordinator, indicating that you are an admitted graduate student; and 2) email the Graduate School at sonja.rizzolo@unco.edu to tell them you wish to add this certificate.

You will apply to the program and then submit additional materials:

  1. Please apply to the UNC Graduate School.
    • Choose Graduate Certificate: Applied Causal Evaluation of Policy and Innovation as your academic program of interest on the application.
    • Follow all graduate school application directions for the application fee and submission of your official transcripts (GRE scores are not required for this program).
    • International applicants: please read the additional steps below.
  2. You will then click on "Submit Supplemental Items" (or log back in later and choose "Bear App Profile") to submit a Background and Goals Statement in the online application system once you have completed your graduate school application. This statement should cover the following topics:
    • Your experience with education, policy, research, and/or program evaluation (300 word limit).
    • Your rationale for applying to the certificate program in Causal Policy Research and how you intend to use what you learn in your work (300 word limit).

Once you apply to the UNC Graduate School and your application packet is complete, your application will be reviewed by the graduate school then sent to the faculty/program for an admission decision. All applications received by the Priority Application Deadline will receive equal consideration and admission decisions will be communicated by the end of May. Applications received after that deadline will be reviewed on a space-available basis, and generally take 4-6 weeks for an admission decision.

International Students

All international (non-U.S. citizen) applicants should mark Yes for "Are you an international student?" at the beginning of the graduate application process. In addition to any application steps listed above, you will also need to prepare the following for your application:

  • Demonstration of Language proficiency – either a Qualifying test score (TOEFL IBT: 80, IELTS: 6.5, PTE-A: 60) or a petition for exemption. UNC's institutional code for TOEFL is 4074.
  • Copy of passport bio page**
  • Financial Documentation** – we will need to verify that you can financially cover the estimated costs (tuition, fees, room, board, insurance, books, supplies, travel) of the time you will be in the U.S. Those applying to programs that last longer than 1 year will only need to provide proof for the first year at the time of application.

** = Items marked with ** are only required for applicants who will be coming to the United States.
