Educational Leadership & Special Education Administration, Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs – NAIL Option

Principal with students

Optional: Native American Innovative Leadership (NAIL) Focus

This Educational Leadership and Special Education Administration program was developed in part to support those interested in Native American educational leadership, offering focused academic attention to the needs of those serving Native American youths and communities.

Please let the Program Coordinator know if you are interested in attending as a NAIL student. Your advisement and course requirements will address how you can

  • Develop a learning environment and effective teaching practices that honor Native culture and language.
  • Help Native students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful and happy individuals as adults.
  • Balance Native and non-Native learning expectations, building upon cultural assets, and maximizing parental and community involvement to support student achievement.

NAIL students will also be able to interact with UNC's Native American Student Services (NASS) association.
