Teacher Leadership Graduate Certificate Program (non-Degree) – Online

Get Started – Choose Your Enrollment

The Teacher Leadership Graduate Certificate is offered in two-term cycles. All required courses are offered in two consecutive terms, then there are two terms without TLC coursework. Choose the enrollment that fits your needs:

Accelerated/Standard Enrollment: Enroll for two content courses and two credits of ELPS 606 (the internship course) for two consecutive terms. Each term, you will take two courses plus a two-credit Internship that is tied to both courses for that term.

Take Your Time Enrollment: Enroll for one content course and one credit of ELPS 606 (the internship course) each term that courses are offered. You will end up enrolling in four terms (with two terms off at some point in between) and complete the program in about 2 calendar years. Be sure to work closely with the Program Coordinator on which classes you need to take your first two terms so that you can complete during the later two terms.

Flexible Enrollment: If you have missed the first term of classes or want to do a heavier load for certain terms and a lighter load others, simply work with the Program Coordinator about application deadlines and an enrollment plan that works for you based on the course schedule.

The Application Process

You will apply to the program and then submit additional materials:

  1. Apply to the UNC Graduate School
    • Choose Graduate Certificate (Non-Degree): Teacher Leadership (Extended Campus) as your academic program of interest on the application.
    • Follow all graduate school application directions for the application fee and submission of your official transcripts (GRE scores are not required for this program).
    • International applicants: please read the additional steps below.
  2. You will then continue in the system (or log back in later) to submit the following:
    • Copy of valid teaching license
    • Current vita or resume which documents professional experiences in education
    • Detailed statement which describes your demonstrated commitment to education; contributions to professional education; personal, professional, and academic goals; and rationale for pursuing the certificate.
    • You will complete a Background Information Sheet.
    • Three professional letters of recommendation - the system will help you initiate requests to be sent to these individuals.

Once you apply to the UNC Graduate School and your application packet is complete, your application will be reviewed by the graduate school then sent to the faculty/program for an admission decision. A completed application typically takes four to six weeks to process.
