Location options: This accelerated program is offered in a hybrid format, where you will spend time in schools and some class sessions in either Denver or Greeley, Colorado, and the other semesters are completed online and in a school near you. On your application you will choose either Denver-Hybrid or Greeley-Hybrid as your site to establish the area for your in-person requirements.

Application Deadline

This program begins each Summer term. Applications will be accepted until March 15 (unless one or both delivery locations are full before that date; we will post here if a delivery is full for the current cycle).  We strongly encourage you to apply as soon as you are ready in order to reserve your spot in the cohort. We will inform you of your admission decision as soon as possible.

A limited number of students may be able to begin this program in the Spring term if they miss the Summer term start. Please contact the Admissions Coach to inquire about a possible Spring start if needed.

Application Process

UNC is pleased to be partnering with TEACH Colorado, a non-profit coalition that works to support future teachers. If you set up a free account with TEACHColorado.org before you complete your UNC application, you will be eligible to receive up to $100 in reimbursement of your application fee and any costs you may incur for academic transcripts or exams. The TEACHColorado.org checklist is optional, but you will need to create an account if you would like to request reimbursement.

We also recommend that you save this page that you are viewing right now for when you return to complete your UNC application.

Thank you for your interest in this UNC graduate program! You will complete the UNC Graduate School application and then submit additional materials. Please review the Eligibility section of the Program Summary page prior to application.

Step 1 – Apply

Apply to the UNC Graduate School. You will start a "UNC Graduate School Application." The following bullets will support you as you complete the application and material submission process.

  • On the application, choose the following program:

    • Secondary Pedagogy: 'your content area' - Grades 7-12 (M.A.T.)

  • Request 3 academic or professional letters of recommendation from those who can attest to your academic potential and abilities. You will be asked to supply contact information for your recommenders in the application.

  • If you are unable to complete your application in one session, you can log back in to your application later to complete it. The application fee process will appear once you submit your application.

Step 2 – Submit Transcripts & Supplemental Items

You will then continue in the system (or log into the Admissions Portal) to complete the following:

  • All applicants will need to request one official transcript from each regionally accredited college or university where a bachelor's degree or higher was earned (or is in progress). Some applicants may need to provide additional transcripts. Situations that require this are listed on the Graduate School website (choose Domestic or International). Directions for having your official transcript(s) sent are listed in the Application Portal.

  • Statement of Goals addressing your potential as a graduate student and future professional goals. The statement should be 500 words or less.

  • A current resume.

  • If you DO NOT have a bachelor's degree in the content area in which you would like to be licensed, you will need to upload proof that you have passed the PRAXIS exam for that content area. Visit the Colorado Department of Education site for coursework and Praxis requirements for each content area.

  • The application portal will also show you which of your recommendations have been completed.

  • GRE scores are NOT required for this program.

Once you apply to the UNC Graduate School and your application packet is complete, your application will be reviewed by the graduate school then sent to the faculty/program for an admission decision. The timing of the admission decision depends on each individual program’s deadline and review process.
