Apply Now!

Application Deadline

We recommend that you apply at least 60 days before the start of your first term. Approximate recommended deadlines:

  • Summer term: March 15
  • Fall term: June 15
  • Spring term: November 15

If those dates have passed, you can contact the Program Coordinator to see if you should still apply for and/or begin classes in the upcoming term.

Application Process

Thank you for your interest in this UNC graduate program! You will complete the UNC Graduate School application and then submit additional materials.

Step 1 – Apply

Apply to the UNC Graduate School (the bullets below may help you as you complete the application).

  • On the application, choose the following program:

    • Special Education M.A. - Generalist Emphasis (Extended Campus)

  • Request 2 academic or professional letters of recommendation from those who can attest to your academic potential and abilities. You will be asked to supply information for your recommenders in the application.

  • The application fee process will appear once you complete all application questions and submit the application.

Step 2 – Submit Transcripts & Supplemental Items

You will then continue in the system (or log back in later) to submit the following:

  • All applicants will be required to submit an official transcript from each regionally accredited college or university where a bachelor's degree or higher was earned (or is in progress). Some applicants may need to submit additional transcripts. Situations that require this are listed on the Graduate School website (choose Domestic or International). Directions for having your official transcript(s) sent to UNC are listed in the application portal.

  • A 1-2 page statement of academic and professional goals.

  • Proof of valid teaching license, if you have one.

  • The application portal will also show you which of your recommendations have been completed.

  • GRE scores are NOT required for this program.

Once you apply to the UNC Graduate School and your application packet is complete, your application will be reviewed by the graduate school then sent to the faculty/program for an admission decision. The timing of the admission decision depends on each individual program’s deadline and review process.

Step 3 – Notify the Program Coordinator

Please notify the Program Coordinator (listed above) that your submitted application is for the accelerated delivery of this program.

This is an Extended Campus program, which means a flat per-credit tuition rate for all students (in-state or out-of-state) and no student fees (they are incorporated into our flat tuition rate). Please note: certain courses may carry specific course fees for additional services and materials.

Program tuition for the 2018-19 academic year (which runs Fall, Spring, and Summer terms) is $520 per credit hour. Tuition for the 2019-20 academic year will be determined mid-June 2019.
