A Master's Degree with Endorsements

Focused on Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)

This master’s program will train you to work with young children, from infancy to age eight. You will learn how to include all children in the educational process, whether they have special needs or not. You will be eligible to work in both regular and special early childhood classrooms, as well as early intervention programs.

  • Understand how children grow and develop
  • Assess and support children with diverse needs
  • Collaborate with families and other professionals
  • Help support mental health in infants and young children

The program includes practicum opportunities in early childhood settings (birth to eight years) so that you can apply what you learn.

Career Outcomes and Qualifications

Once you complete the program, you will be ready to work in inclusive classrooms and early intervention programs, and you will be eligible for two Colorado endorsements:

  1. Early Childhood Education (Birth–8 years)
  2. Early Childhood Special Education (Birth–8 years)

Fully Online/Distance Delivery

This interdisciplinary program is aligned with the Colorado requirements for both of the following endorsements:

  • Early Childhood Education (ages 0-8)
  • Early Childhood Special Education (ages 0-8)

Coursework (34-37 Credit Hours)

The program includes:

  • Academic courses
  • Practicums, which allow you to apply what you learn to real-world educational settings. The UNC Office of Educator Preparation will help you arrange these placements.

Most students will complete the program in two years (six consecutive academic terms). Alternate enrollment options are available. You can speak with program representatives about those timelines and financial aid impacts.
